Press Release Article Friday 03rd January 2003: Marching fans hope for third time lucky
CARLISLE United fans planning to march in a demonstration of discontent with the current ownership of the club, are hoping it will be third time lucky in the New Year. The march, organised by CCUIST, the Independent Supporters' Trust, has been twice postponed because United's last two home games have fallen foul of the freeze.
First the march was scheduled for the Darlington game on Boxing Day. Then another attempt to stage it on the afternoon of the Torquay United visit to Brunton Park was also frozen out by the weather.
CCUIST secretary Alan Steel said it had been hoped that the turnout for the march would far exceed that for the first demonstration on the day of the Scunthorpe game in December. Lots of United fans who normally live outside the county would have been home for the festive holidays.
However now the march, which is also designed to show any prospective purchaser of the struggling Cumbrians the strength of support that could be tapped into, has been rescheduled for Saturday January 12 at 2 pm from in front of the Turf Tavern near the Sands car park.
On that day United have another vital home fixture against Leyton Orient as they continue their fight for Third Division survival.
