Press Release Article Thursday 11th April 2002: Protest to be held at Brunton Park
Following the recent events at Carlisle United a protest is to be held at Brunton Park before the match against Plymouth on Saturday April 13. Supporters will gather outside the ground from 1pm and will be joined by up to 2000 Plymouth supporters whose representatives have expressed keen interest in assisting their colleagues from Carlisle. All of the Plymouth fans will be made genuinely welcome.
Whilst as always the decision as to whether to attend the match or not must be one for each individual supporter, and the Plymouth supporters having made such a long journey will obviously want to see the match, the consensus amongst the Carlisle supporters intending to take part is that they will not be attending the match, but instead will proceed at a slow march around the ground outside Brunton Park for its duration.
They will then be able to voice their support for the team and Roddy Collins, the recently dismissed manager, but at the same time demonstrate what the consequences will be for attendances if there is no change of ownership.
Fans will also have the opportunity of adding their own personal signature to the Carlisle United shirt which is to be framed and presented to Ian Atkins as a token of the supporters' appreciation of what he was able to achieve with the team under very difficult circumstances.
