Press Release Article Monday 06th December 2004: Brooks Mileson makes the Carlisle United Centenary a golden year for the Cumbrians
The United Trust is delighted to announce that, following discussions with Mr Brooks Mileson, it has been agreed that the balance of any monies owing by the Trust under its existing contract for the progressive acquisition of up to 49% of the shares in CUFC (Holdings) Ltd – the Company which owns some 93% of Carlisle United - will be DONATED by Mr Mileson to the Trust as and when the monies fall due under the contract. Having once again received legal advice on the matter it has been confirmed that the contract is legally binding on all the parties involved.
Mr. Mileson’s donations will all be made from new money which would not otherwise be available to the Club – there is no question of any conflict between the Club and the Trust for these funds. Mr Mileson will donate the £600,000 still owing to the Club by the Trust in payment for the first 40% of the shares it is entitled to under the current contract. His only stipulation to the Trust is that it must continue with its efforts to raise money for the benefit of the Club. THIS MONEY WILL BE IN ADDITION TO ANY FUNDS DONATED BY MR MILESON IN PAYMENT FOR THE SHARES.
The Trust Board are delighted with this latest generous offer from Mr. Mileson which forms a fitting climax to this the 100th year of the Club’s existence. The Trust will now leave a legacy to subsequent generations of Cumbria’s football fans which will prevent the Club and its assets ever being used for any other purpose than to fully benefit the Cub which is held so dear by us all.
