Press Release Article Friday 01st June 2007: United Trust Statement 01.06.07
Carlisle United AFC (1921) Ltd owns some 110 acres of land adjacent to the football ground.
An EGM took place on May 24th 2007 with one item on the agenda - a further proposal and recommendation by the club directors that most of this land should be transferred to a third party for nil consideration. The shareholders voted in favour of this proposal.
The United Trust was established to protect the interests of Carlisle United and sought injunctive relief from the High Court on the day of the EGM to prevent the meeting going ahead. Because of the time factor involved the Judge was not able to grant the Trust's application given that there would be no irreparable harm likely to be suffered if the EGM went ahead, on the basis that the transfer was not imminent.
The Trust therefore cannot see how the transfer would be in the best interests of both the Club and it shareholders. In fact, to the contrary, it is clearly to their detriment.
At this moment in time the Trust is seeking further consultation with its lawyers and will keep members informed as developments occur.
